Medical marijuana in California law
It is actually quite legal to obtain, possess or even raise medical marijuana in California and has been since 1996. The so-called Compassionate Use Act allows for the seriously or chronically ill to attempt to treat their ailments with cannabis so long as it has been recommended by a physician. This act did not legalize marijuana cultivation, use or sales by the general public or without the advice of a doctor. It does include wording that allows patients or their primary caregiver to obtain, cultivate and possess cannabis for their own medicinal needs. For those unwilling or unable to grow their own supply, we provide a list of medical marijuana dispensaries in California. These facilities are allowed to sell medical marijuana in California to approved patients.
According to the law, marijuana is to be obtainable and its use allowed by anyone deemed by a doctor to have his or her health benefit from it. Although several specific conditions, ranging from AIDS to chronic pain, are mentioned in the law, the use of cannabis is not limited merely to these specified conditions.
